Malcolm Butler, who has been involved with RRI since its beginning, has had extensive leadership experience in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. In the private sector, he was Senior Vice President of Management Systems International, an international management consulting firm, and earlier was president of his own firm, Malcolm Butler Global Associates. He continues to work with a few private and public clients.
In the non-profit world, Malcolm was president of Partners of the Americas, which builds relations between the people of Latin America and the United States; International Vice President at the Association of Public and Land Grant Universities, where his staff helped member universities build global reach and impact; Senior Advisor to the presidents of Mercy Corps and Save the Children; and Program Director of the North Carolina Outward Bound School.
In the public sector, Malcolm was Director of the USAID missions in Bolivia, Peru, Lebanon and the Philippines. He established and ran the bureau for Eastern Europe and the Newly Independent States; and led the bureaus for Latin America, the Caribbean, and Intergovernmental Affairs. Before he joined USAID, Malcolm was on the staff of the National Security Council, with the Office of Management and Budget, and a State Department Foreign Service Officer. As a diplomat, he attained the personal rank of Career Minister and received numerous awards, including two presidential citations.
Malcolm has served on several private and non-profit boards of directors over the years. Currently, he serves on the boards of the McLean Citizens Association, the Latino Federation of Greater Washington, the Riecken Foundation, and the Julius Rosenwald School of Northumberland County.
He lives in McLean, Virginia with his wife Tish and sons Martin and Anthony.
